The Chief Secretary Punjab Suleman Siddique has directed all the administrative secretaries to hold open courts to provide immediate relief to the aggrieved people. He was speaking at his median open court at Punjab Civil Secretariat on Saturday.
Only restricted people were allowed to attend the court to inform the chief secretary about their complaints against public servants and departments. The chief secretary said that the government introduced a number of initiatives in public sector including police order and local government system to facilitate the masses and minimise their grievances.
He said in new system people were empowered at grassroots level to decide their problems. Under police order, abundant authorities were delegated to the police officers to redress the grievances of public regarding police highhandedness and misuse of power, he said, adding, changes were not meant that the provincial government's supervisory and control role was ended. The Punjab government is still empowered to monitor the performance of all the all departments including police.
He said all the administrative heads of the provincial departments would hold such courts to solve public problems. He said the chief minister Punjab directed to reply every complaint and application to the applicant and complainant for his guidance and now the government would ensure this. He said the IGP was directed to hold such courts regularly to listen to complaints against his subordinates.
A complainant Mujuib Ahmed requested the chief secretary to award membership of Lahore Gymkhana. He refused to entertain his request with the observation that this was not the proper forum.
On the complaint of a teacher, the CS directed the finance and education secretaries to ensure the disbursement of raise and annual increments to the junior science and math teachers working on contract.
A resident of Rawalpindi complained regarding corruption and highhandedness of Shakeel Akhtar a junior clerk in Housing and Town Planning. The CS directed the secretary housing to immediately transfer the official and hold inquiry against him under removal from service ordinance.
