The government of NWFP on Saturday tasked the Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Malik Zafar Azam to examine constitutional jurisdiction of provincial government and evolve consensus on the new name for the province after consultation with political parties and submit a final report with a week.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the provincial cabinet, which met here at Chief Minister Secretariat with Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani in the chair.
Briefing the journalists regarding decisions made in the meeting of provincial cabinet, NWFP Minister for Information, Asif Iqbal Daudzai said under article 1 of the Constitution, provincial government will take a decision to rename the province. However, he said that consensus before suggesting a new name would be developed to decided the issue amicably.
Final decision on the new name of the province, Daudzai said would be taken after the law ministry submits its report. "The Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Malik Zafar Azam has been assigned the task to examine provincial authority on the issue and contact different political parties to develop consensus on the new name," added Daudzai.
He said that the provincial cabinet in its Saturday meeting also decided to empower the district governments for filling the vacant posts from grade 1-15. But, in future, especial committee under Health Minister would recommend various appointments to be made at the district level.
The posts, he said would be advertised on district level while the committee under Health Minister would recommend appointments of medical doctors from various districts in order they could perform in their respective districts without any problem.
Similarly, the Minister informed the cabinet has constituted another committee with Health Minister, Law Minister and finance secretary to work on establishment of community dispensaries in backward and remote areas of the province. "The committee would mark the proper spots for establishing the community dispensaries in backward areas so poor people could be provided medical facilities at nearest spots," Daudzai informed.
The cabinet, the Information Minister said has decided the establishment of a new management pool in teaching group enabling them to perform management duties and also develop management skills. "60pc appointments for management cadre would be made out of teaching group while 40pc fresh recruitment will be made for the management cadre," the minister said adding education minister will meet teaching staff to remove ambiguity in this regard.
He said 50pc appointment of subject specialists would be made through Public Service Commission while remaining 50pc appointments would be done through departmental selection committees. "With this decision a qualified primary teacher could be promoted as subject specialist," he added saying provincial government would amend Public Service Commission Ordinance for the new rule.
The Minister informed that the cabinet has also expressed grave concern over the abduction of senior journalist Suhail Qalandar and Nazim Shahi Bagh union council saying Chief Minister Akram Durrani had discussed the issue with Governor and stressed for immediate action against the culprits already been identified by provincial police.
