The Clean Cotton Programme for the Cotton Season 2006-07 launched by the Ministry of Textile Industry in collaboration with PCGA, Aptma, Punjab and Sindh Governments is in progress.
Till-date out of 19,88,786 maunds of seed cotton (phutti) received at 23 ginning factories (Punjab-17 and Sindh-06). 8,85,187 maunds phutti have been certified as clean out of which 61,900 bales of clean lint cotton have been produced and 47,900 hales have been sold by the ginners to the exporters and spinning/textile sector at an average premium of more than Rs 35 per maund, according to a press release issued by the Pakistan Cotton Standards Institute (PCSI) here on Saturday.
It is worth mentioning that cotton growers and suppliers are being paid Rs 50 per maund by the government for the phutti brought to these factories if it is certified and declared clean and of grade-2 or higher by a team of professionals headed by PCSI classer with representatives of TCP, Provincial Agriculture Departments and ginners representative as members, at each of the 23 selected ginning factories in Sindh and Punjab.-PR
