Pakistan Muslim League (N) Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal has described the present government performances against terrorism as insufficient and unsatisfactory. Talking to newsmen on Sunday, Ahsan Iqbal pointed out that Pakistan become target of terrorism due to President Pervez Musharraf's policies.
He noted that President Musharraf had promised on January 12, 2002 that the government would eliminate terrorism very soon. He said two persons were daily become target of terrorism in 2006.
The PML (N) Information Secretary said that according to a study report 657 terrorist incidents including 41 sectarian took place in 2006, adding that 907 people were killed and 1550 injured in the incidents.
He said that this situation has made Pakistan unsafe for foreign investment. He said that the worst terrorist incidents including Marriott Hotel, Peshawar took place in the advent of the 2007 and several people including senior police officials were killed in it.
He said that the crimes became doubled in Lahore during last five years and 61037 cases were registered in Punjab capital in 2006 while there were 33000 cases in 2001.
Ahsan Iqbal pointed out that President had issued new police order in 2002 and promised to provide more protection to the people but it made the masses unsafe and miserable.
He said that it was responsibility of the security agencies to eliminate terrorism but they were only protecting the President. He termed the Information Minister's statement that recent terrorism roots are in Palestine as joke of the new Year.
