Kashmir Solidarity Day will be observed on February 5 with renewed spirit for moral, diplomatic and political support of Kashmiris fighting for their just right of self-determination.
It was decided at an inter-provincial co-ordination meeting held on Thursday with Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas, Major Tahir Iqbal (Retd) in the chair. The Minister said there is a need of highlighting the Kashmir issue in its true perspective at all levels.
He said through continuous diplomatic efforts and the approach adopted by the President Parvez Musharraf, Pakistan has succeeded in getting Kashmir issue globally recognised, bringing India to the negotiation table. The world leaders must realise that its resolution is imperative to the peace and South Asian security, he said. This year, he said, elaborate programmes have been planned for commemorating the day.
Government has declared February 5 as a national holiday and a five-minute silence will be observed at 10:00 hours on the day to honour the Kashmiri "Shuhada." A Kashmir convention will be organised at the National Library. Federal Ministers, President AJK, Prime Minister AJK, parliamentarians, Diplomats and AJK Council members will participate the convention.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz is also likely to address the joint session of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and Council on February 5 at Muzaffarabad. In addition, Kashmir cultural festival will be organised at Lok Virsa, Islamabad and a painting exhibition will be held by the Pakistan National Council of Arts at the Community Centre, Islamabad.
A solidarity walk led by the Parliamentarians of Special Committee on Kashmir and other prominent personalities would be held in the morning from China Chowk to the Parade Avenue. The AJK Government and provincial and district governments have also chalked out programmes including rallies, photos exhibitions, debate competitions, sport events which will be actively participated by the Ministers, political leaders and district Nazims.
