The Chief Election Commissioner has authorised magisterial powers to the staff carrying out polling process for the by-election against one each vacant seats National Assembly and Provincial Assembly from Sindh.
District returning officers, returning officers and assistant returning officers appointed for the bye-elections in NA-250 Karachi-XII and PS-71 Dadu-I and the presiding officers, appointed for each polling station of the said constituencies, will exercise these powers. The officials will exercise these powers under the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898 (Act V of 1898) on February 10, 2007, the day appointed for polling for bye-elections in the said constituencies.
The Chief Election Commissioner assigns these powers to the officers to deal with the offences punishable under section 80, 82A, 83, 84, 85, 86 and section 87 of the said Act and to take cognisance of any such offence under any of the clauses of sub-section (1) of section 190 of the said Code and to try any such offence in a summary way in accordance with the provisions of the said Code, relating to summary trials.
