Strategy evolved to check hike in fruit prices

With a view to controlling prices of fruits and discouraging the role of middlemen mafia and 'arthis', the Punjab government has devised a strategy for providing fruits to the common man at reasonable rates and necessary directions have been issued to all fruit and vegetable markets.
Chairman price control and prices and supplies monitoring committee Khawaja Tahir Zia while addressing a meeting of the body, here on Friday. Director marketing Mohammed Ashfaq, deputy directors marketing and others were present on the occasion.
The meeting was told that landholders and growers are waiting arrival of new crop of fruits as they have removed old fruit trees while the young trees have yet to bear fruits. This was the main reason of rising prices of fruits.
