With elections scheduled in the not too distant a future (hopefully as announced), we should brace ourselves to hear and see, ad-nauseum, announcements and pronouncements through various media and public meetings by the contestants in the game trying to outdo each other in their patriotism of and for Pakistan.
If the last few electioneering campaigns are anything to go by, it may be heard again that elections will be contested to better serve the country and a message that if contest won, power so acquired will never be used for self-interest or self-enrichment (how noble!). How utterly 'patriotic' they will be, some players in the game. Their 'Jazba' to serve the nation higher than that of all the populace put together.
Chants of ' Holier-than-thou' and 'Pakistan-above-self' slogans with an angelic twist may put to test the sensibilities of our people. Players of the game, if they take a peek at history, may discover that Patriotism DOES NOT have a shelf-life. Self-annointed chanters DO.
