The federal government has approved a project worth Rs 1.685 billion to provide electricity to 700 villages of all Balochistan districts which will be completed in two years.
According to the Planning Commission Rs 1.034 billion will be provided by the Kuwait Fund while the government of Pakistan's share will be Rs 652 million. The Kuwait Fund is a part of Arab Economic Development Loan.
The official sources told APP that with the accomplishment of the project, about 24,000 households, 16,000 commercial users, 200 tubewells and 70 industries will get the facility of electricity.
According to the sources the power supply to 700 villages, tubewells and industrial units will lay remarkable impact on the socio-economic uplift of these areas and also raise the living standard of the people of these far flung areas. The rural electrification is viewed as a major step forward for rapid development that will also help in controlling migration from rural to urban areas.
In addition to this huge project the Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco) also intends to electrify 1,627 villages under Roshan Pakistan Project besides the projects undertaken through legislators' funds.
