Corn futures on the Chicago Board of Trade were weak early on Friday on technical selling and on a steep slide in precious metals, especially gold, traders said.
At 10:20 am CST (1620 GMT), CBOT corn was unchanged to down 1-1/2 cents in the nearby contracts, with March down 1-1/2 cents at $3.96-1/2 per bushel. New-crop December was down 1/4 at $3.92-1/4 per bushel. R.J. O'Brien and FIMAT Futures each sold 300 March and J.P. Morgan bought 300 March, traders said.
March broke support early at the $3.96 bushel mark, touching off sell-stops and driving the contract to a session low of $3.94-1/2, a three-week low. Oat futures were down 2 to 4-1/2 cents per bushel, with March down 4-1/2 at $2.52-1/2.
