The Government of Pakistan on Saturday appointed Dr Abdul Rauf Rind, a leading businessman and pediatric surgeon in Russia, as Honorary Consul General (CG) of Pakistan in Saint Petersburg.
Dr Abdul Rauf Rind went to Russia in 1984 to study medicine. He graduated and became a successful pediatric surgeon. In early 90s after the break up of Soviet Union he started his own business in Saint Petersburg, Russia and excelled in the business of textiles.
In 2003 Rauf Rind expanded his business. In other sphere he started the import of citrus fruit and rice from Pakistan and introduced it in Russian market. Now he is a leading businessman in the import of rice, fruit and vegetables from Pakistan to Russia. Considering his long-term engagements in the business with Pakistan, he is also investing in Pakistan.
With his influence in government, business and educational circles in St. Petersburg, he has been assisting Pakistanis in organising visits to the region. Many leading Pakistani businessmen have visited him in Saint Petersburg.
He also has a strong network of friends and associates in other regions of Russia, says a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here.
