Australia captain Ricky Ponting has been cleared to play in Sunday's tri-series one-day international against New Zealand in Melbourne. Ponting missed his team's 92-run loss to England in Sydney on Friday because of a hip problem but will lead the side against the Kiwis.
Ponting will replace all-rounder Andrew Symonds, who is to undergo surgery after rupturing the biceps tendon in his right shoulder. Australia have also swapped two fast bowlers, with Brett Lee and Mitchell Johnson replacing Glenn McGrath and Nathan Bracken as part of the world champions' ongoing rotation policy.
Australia team: Ricky Ponting (captain), Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Brad Hodge, Michael Clarke, Mike Hussey, Cameron White, Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson, Stuart Clark, Shaun Tait, Glenn McGrath (12th man).
