Former AJK prime minister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry on Sunday asked Indian leaders to honour their commitment made before the world community and grant right to self-determination to the Kashmiri people in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolutions.
"India's first prime minister Nehru had promised to hold plebiscite in occupied Kashmir in accordance with the UN resolutions to determine will of Kashmiri people," he told APP while talking from London.
Sultan Mehmood, who is visiting United Kingdom and other European countries to muster support for Kashmir, said that Indian leaders were hoodwinking the international community as they were not sincere for settlement of Kashmir issue.
Pakistan, he said, had given several concessions to India but Indian side had been prolonging the ongoing dialogue process for resolution of all outstanding issues, including the core issue of Kashmir.
He said as a goodwill gesture, India should announce withdrawal of its troops from cities in occupied Kashmir, release all political prisoners and stop human rights violations against innocent Kashmiris.
He said Indian troops had martyred more than 100,000 Kashmiris during the last decade and were still committing massive human right violations.
Sultan Mehmood said the movement for the right to self-determination was an indigenous effort by Kashmiri youth, adding the world community should intervene and help Kashmiris in getting their just right.
"Both India and Pakistan have fought three wars but they failed to resolve this issue bilaterally, hence the world community especially European countries should come forward and play their role for resolution of Kashmir issue," he added.
Welcoming the ongoing dialogue process between Pakistan and India for settlement of Kashmir, he said Kashmiris were main party to the issue and time has come to include Kashmiri representatives in it.
Commenting the visit of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leaders to Pakistan, he termed it a positive development and said the other leaders especially Syed Ali Gillani should also be provided an opportunity to visit Pakistan to discuss the issue with Kashmiri and Pakistan leadership.
He also proposed to hold an intra-Kashmiri dialogue giving an opportunity to the Kashmiri leadership from both sides of Kashmir to sit together and evolve a strategy for freedom of their homeland.
About expatriate Kashmiris, he said they were playing a very key role in highlighting the Kashmir issue in the different countries, adding besides taking part in the local politics, they were also making efforts for the Kashmir cause.
