A three-day international conference on 'Water Conservation' will be held in Islamabad from February 28 to work out strategy for judicious use of water.
Senate standing committee on sports, tourism, culture and youth affairs chairman Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry, who is also Secretary-General, Asia Pacific parliamentary conference on environment and development (APPCED), told APP here on Sunday that 85 delegates from 25 countries, out of total 47 member countries, have so far confirmed their participation in the moot. He said that President Pervez Musharraf would inaugurate the conference, while Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz would preside over the concluding session. He said: "We have received tremendous response from all member countries, and total number of delegates might rise to 100 during next week."
He said that leading experts of international repute working in various international organisations, private and public sectors would present their research papers in technical sessions on judicious use of water and its conservation to meet the ever-increasing future needs.
The senator said that President Pervez Musharraf always attaches great importance to early construction of new water reservoirs in the country to produce cheaper hydel power to meet the agricultural and industrial requirements. He said that hydel power is the only cheap source of power the world over, "and we must exploit all available water resources".
