President General Pervez Musharraf on Monday, expressing optimism towards the resolution of the Kashmir dispute, said the focus of the two countries had shifted from a confrontationist to a reconciliatory approach.
The President however urged the Kashmiri people, groups and their leaders to have unanimity of thought and harmony to move forward on the path of peace and progress by resolving the dispute of Jammu and Kashmir.
President Musharraf told reporters here at the Chaklala Air Base before leaving for a two-day visit to Tehran and Ankara: "We are seeing some light at the end of the tunnel where we may be able to resolve the dispute for good, and for the benefit of the people of Kashmir and to give them final peace."
Expressing solidarity with the Kashmiris, the President assured that he, the entire Pakistani nation and the government stood along them and were endeavouring to bring peace and improvement in their lives by resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
"I urge you all to bring unity amongst your ranks and files, bring harmony in your thoughts - I appeal all leaders, parties and all shades of thoughts for unanimity of views and to guide us how to resolve this issue."
The President reiterating his support to the Kashmiris said, "I stand by you and may Allah bring happiness and peace to your area." To a question, the President said the Kashmir Solidarity Day this year was different from similar days celebrated in the past as "there is a change of focus from confrontationist stance to reconciliatory resolution of dispute."
The President called for concentrating efforts in this regard and sought input from the Kashmiri leaders in deciding how this could be achieved. "This day has great significance as focus has changed towards the resolution of the dispute and I am happy about it," he added. He said the environment had shifted towards a peaceful resolution, progress was being made and urged more work towards its consolidation.
