imageThe release of the Indian movie 'Raees' which was scheduled to hit Pakistani cinemas on Sunday, was on Monday banned for its inappropriate portrayal of Muslims. Censor board of Pakistan has banned the release of Shah Rukh Khan-Mahira Khan starrer as the film is unsuitable for the viewers in Pakistan.

After the ministry's objections, the censor board has refused to grant NOC for screening of Raees in Pakistan.

"Owing to subtle portrayal of Muslims as criminals, violent and terrorists, the recommendations forwarded by the CBFC panel deemed the film unsuitable for public screening," a source privy to the development told The Express Tribune. "We could not issue a certificate because the film portrays Islam and a particular Muslim sect in negative light," the source added.

Director Rahul Dholakia immediately took to Twitter to express his disappointment over the latest decision. "#raeesbanned in Pakistan ??? Outraged !! Dumbfounded!!," he tweeted.

Pakistani actress Mahira Khan who is playing a lead character opposite SRK in the movie also feels dejected after the ban. She recently celebrated the success of the movie via video conference in Mumbai.

However, after lifting ban on Indian movies, Hrithik Roshan's 'Kaabil' has been running successfully in Pakistani cinemas. The movie has earned around Rs 2 crore within few days of its release.
