CM announces Rs500,000 for victims of Uni Rd accident in Karachi
KARACHI: Taking notice of protest staged in the aftermath of a tragic road accident that killed at least four people, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Friday directed the Sindh IG AD Khawaja to constitute an inquiry committee to probe the mishap.
At least four persons were killed and several others injured when a fast-moving local passenger bus overturned at a bus stop on University Road near the Baitul Mukkaram mosque in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Thursday.
According to reports, the accident took place owing to the negligence of the driver who lost control of his bus. The victims included a male and three female students of Urdu University who were standing on the footpath when the bus overturned.
The incident had occurred because of the construction work on the road which had started without proper planning.
The incident enraged area people who protested against the authorities and raised questions about the way the construction work was being carried out in the city, particularly on University Road.
Talking to the media while visiting the site today, Transport Minister Nasir hussain Shah said the CM Sindh has announced Rs5 lac rupees for each victim.
Following the incident, Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar had visited the spot and later enquired after the health of the injured at the hospital.
Road accidents have claimed 22 lives in last 10 days. Six including three students died in mishaps on University road.
