Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and other religious and political parties on Monday observed the protest day against celebrating the "Basant" at official level, which caused death of 17 people leaving hundreds of people injured.
They appealed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to try the rulers for contempt of court. While condemning the death of innocent citizens in kite-flying-related incidents on Basant, Khurshid Kanju, Rao Zafar Iqbal, Mufti Hidayatullah Pasroori, Allama Hamid Saeed Kazmi, ex-MNA, Allama Rashid Arshad Kashmiri held the government responsible for the loss of precious lives and sympathised with the families of victims. The protest day was observed at the call of MMA President and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmad. They said the Punjab government allowed kite-flying despite a ban by the Supreme Court.
Mufti Hidayatullah Pasroori urged upon the government to impose a permanent ban on kite-flying and also urged the Supreme Court to take suo motu action against the government for allowing kite-flying.
