NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai (Retd) directed to prepare a master plan and implementation strategy for the population welfare programme in Fata within fortnight so that the implementation process could be initiated as early as possible.
The governor was presiding over a high level meeting, which decided to extend the Population Welfare Programme to Federally Administered Tribal Area (Fata).
Federal Minister for Population Welfare Chaudhry Shahbaz Hussain, NWFP Chief Secretary Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, Secretary Population Welfare Shahzado Sheikh, Secretary to Governor Azmat Hanif, Secretary Administration and Co-ordination Fata Sikandar Qayum and Director Health Fata Dr Muhammad Zubair also attended the meeting besides other concerned officials of the Ministry and Fata Secretariat.
The meeting decided that family welfare centers and mobile service units would be established in all the Agencies and FRs and to be housed in the already available health facilities.
The meeting after detailed deliberations decided to offer an attractive salary package to the field staff to be posted in the Agencies and FRs and directed officials to finalise service rules for various categories of employees. The governor also directed the officials of Fata Civil Secretariat to select a suitable site for setting up a Regional Training Institute.
He assured all out co-operation and assistance to the Ministry of Population Welfare in implementation of the programme in Fata and vowed to ensure that the benefits of the programme is reached the common tribesmen. He said that efficient and judicious utilisation of funds would be ensured so as to achieve the objectives of this programme.
Federal Minister for Population Welfare Chaudhry Shahbaz Hussain said that expenditure on the project would be borne by the Federal Government for which a sum of Rs 250 million had already been earmarked. He said that the project was part of the President's special development initiatives for Fata, adding that it would be implemented with a total commitment.
