DHL, the world's leading express and logistics company, on Monday announced the launch of the Young Entrepreneur Sustainability (YES) awards, focusing on the achievements made by the young social entrepreneur for the achievement of millennium development goals (MDGs).
The award seeks to recognise and promote young social entrepreneurs in Asia working towards the UN millennium development goals, and DHL Pakistan seeks to identify and highlight the initiatives undertaken by young entrepreneurs in pursuit of excellence in the respective fields of the MDGs, said a press release.
The eight UN MDGs, which form a blueprint agreed to by the world's countries and leading development institutions, are: eradicate extreme hunger and poverty; achieve universal primary education; promote gender equality and empower women; reduce child mortality; improve maternal health; combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases; ensure environmental sustainability and develop a global partnership for development.
In the inaugural year, 2007, the awards will initially take place in five countries in the Asia Pacific region - Bangladesh, Pakistan, The Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
"Social entrepreneurs offer more than philanthropic donations and more than social services. Just as entrepreneurs change the face of business, social entrepreneurs use this approach to act as the change agents for society, seizing opportunities others miss and improving systems, inventing new approaches and creating sustainable solutions to change society for the better", said Yasin Amanullah, National Marketing Manager.-PR
