Six condemned prisoners, involved in murder cases, were hanged till death in different jails of Punjab on Tuesday morning. Three robbers Ubaidullah (45) son of Faqirullah of Yazman, Muhammad Ismail (45) son of Muhammad Hussain of Uch Sharif and Nazar Hussain (40) son of Ghulam Sarwar of Khanewal were hanged in Bahawalpur prison in the presence of Jail Superintendent, Medical Officer Dr Ataullah, and a magistrate Tariq Javed.
Anti terrorism court Bahawalpur, headed by Bakhtiar Ahmed Siyal, had awarded them death sentence under sections 302, 353, 324,186 and 34 PPC for killing two cops Mukhtar Hussain and Khadim and injuring an ASI Mujahid Hussain Rizvi on August 22, 1997 during the raid on a jewellery shop.
Jail Superintendent Tariq Babur said they had handed over the bodies to their relatives soon after confirmation of their death by the medical officer. He said that they had killed two constables during an encounter in 1997 in Uch Sharif.
Fourth convict Muhammad Waris resident of Chowk Azam (Layyah) was hanged in Dera Ghazi Khan prison, who had killed two persons Ghulam Abbas and Muhammad Ramzan for having suspicion of developing illicit ties with his sister. He also killed his sister. Additional session judge Layyah had awarded him death sentence twice and imposed fine of Rs 0.2 million and acquitted other accused giving them benefit of doubt on July 21,1998.
His parents and brothers refused to meet him just before the execution. However, his maternal uncles and other relatives met him. He was only 16 year old when he committed the crime.
Munir Ahmed was hanged in Gujranwala prison as the court awarded him death sentence for killing four persons, including a woman Rasul Bibi, following the enmity, while sixth convict Rukhsar Ahmed son of Noor Mahi was hanged in Gujrat prison following the murder charge, Jail authorities said.
