The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and other trade bodies are not comfortable with Director Trade Organisations (DTO) of the Commerce Ministry over the Trade Organisations Ordinance (TOO).
Businessmen Panel chairman Tariq Sayeed and co-chairman Iftikhar Ali Malik on Wednesday expressed concern over DTO working with FPCCI and other trade bodies and cautioned the DTO of negative impact of the new law for trade organisations and said that any such attempt will be resisted by the traders and industrialists.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, they said Businessmen Panel (BP) is ruling the FPCCI, which is the most important forum of the businessmen and its opinion matters in the government and other circles.
Tariq Sayeed and Iftikhar Ali Malik said that traders and industrialists were competent enough to settle their issues and provide the with government guidelines for policy making and any attempt for unnecessarily intervention will undermine their role.
The BP leaders recalled that Commerce minister Humayun Akhtar Khan had accepted most of the demand of the FPCCI and other trade bodies during a recent meeting for consultations on the new trade organisation law and assured them that the government will not embark upon any idea of controlling the trade organisations through any new law. The two leaders extended all-out cooperation to the government on behalf of their group and FPCCI and urged upon the minister for Commerce to bar DTO from any adventurism to gag the trade bodies through any coercive measure.
