Station masters did not observe the strike nor tender their resignations on Thursday because Federal Minister for Railway Shaikh Rashid Ahmed has called them for negotiations on Friday (March 2) and assured them about redressal of grievances and acceptance of their demands, it is officially learnt here on Thursday.
The railway authorities have invited protesting station masters, who had announced collective resignation from their posts, to resolve the issue amicably.
The station masters had announced tendering resignations in protest against the government decision not to give them a pay raise, notified last year for all railway employees.
A leader of the railway station masters union, Din Muhammad, said they had given February 28 deadline for acceptance of their demands but now it was extended for two day on the request of federal railway minister. He said all station masters had to resign from their seats on March 1 and launch a countrywide protest to press for acceptance of their demands.
A railway official said the union leaders have been invited to a meeting on Friday at the Railways Headquarter Lahore, where all issues including pay raise would be discussed.
