NWFP Excise and Taxation Department has fined 181 vehicles having illegal motor licence, number plates and illegal personalised numbers and recovered from them a sum of rupees 22,40,000- as penalty.
It was revealed in a letter issued by the Director General Excise and Taxation NWFP on Thursday. The letter said the government had activated the Excise and Taxation squads all over the province to proceed against all such vehicles having illegal number plates and their progress was being monitored by Director General of the Department.
It explained that a penalty of rupees 10,000 and 25,000 respectively was being imposed for use of all such illegal motor licence number plates and display of illegal personalised numbers. The campaign against the illegal number plates would boost the efforts of the government and ensure fool proof law and order situation in the province.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi has directed the concerned authorities to evolve such a mechanism where under illegal buses, wagons and richshaws are taken off the road in order to resolve the growing problems of traffic in Peshawar City.
He gave these directives during the meeting convened here to discuss traffic problems. Present on the occasion were Additional Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, IGP, District Nazim Peshawar, Secretary Local Govt: Secretary Transport, Chief Capital City Police Peshawar, Director CDMD, DCO Peshawar and SP Traffic Peshawar.
He directed that truck and bus stands should be shifted outside of the city for which CDMD was asked to plan for construction of infrastructure. He said that CNG buses should be introduced adding that a scheme be prepared for providing soft bank loans enabling the transporters to purchase the same.
