Various Benches of Supreme Court were constituted by the Chief Justice of Pakistan at the Principal Seat, Islamabad and Branch Registries at Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta to expedite the case hearings and clear the backlog. The apex court's strategy of preparing cause lists in advance and discouragement of adjournments has resulted in decrease of backlogs and accelerated the disposal of the cases.
Besides, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took notices in a number of Human Rights violations on complaints received from the aggrieved persons and on press reports and passed appropriate orders to the concerned authorities.
