All main roads, streets and footpaths are lying broken, cracked and badly damaged in the whole of Gulistan-e-Jouhar, Karachi. A few portions of which have been deeply digged, trees unearthed and footpath bulldozed for laying sewerage lines and the whole of so deserted place left unattended with mountains of mud and crushed stones of sharp edges.
Dirty sewerage water is leaking and flowing around residential areas. Roads in all the four directions of Jouhar Chourangee and the Jouhar roundabout itself exhibit worst dilapidated conditions and the area looks like an abandoned remote area of Karachi.
Roads initially laid in Gulistan-e-Jouhar were constructed of very poor and low quality material without keeping in view their quality, as a result most of the roads are either washed away by leaking sewerage water and cracked or broken. The years long damaged and leaking sewerage lines on both sides of Jouhar Bridge are never repaired due to which pool of dirty drain water is permanently stranded creating health hazards.
In a nutshell, the residents are unable to drive, walk, move and live in peace and are leading a very miserable life. People from other areas of the city avoid visiting or passing through Gulistan-e-Jouhar to save their vehicles from getting damaged and tires punctured.
Most of public transporters have suspended or cancelled their service routes via Jouhar Chourangee due to damaged roads. Office going residents, school children and families are forced to walk a long way to catch transport from distant points. Besides, the conservancy arrangements are also very poor and are creating environmental problems.
Residents of Gulistan-e-Jouhar, pay property and conservancy taxes to the Cantonment Board Faisal (CBF) while Water, Sewerage and Fire Taxes are being charged by the City district Government of Karachi (CDGK).
Thousands of complaints made to the concerned authorities have gone unheeded, unheard and without remedial measures so far. The tax payers are being deprived of basic amenities of life and services in return, which is highly deplorable. The President of Pakistan is requested to kindly take cognizance of the situation and arrange relief of the problems in the larger public interest.
