The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will construct a model disaster management education school at Muzaffarabad. The school is aimed to promote disaster management education among teachers and students, which is essential for them for the future, Minister of Japan Embassy Hiroyuki Kishino said here on Tuesday while talking to media.
He said a study team of JICA has selected Sathi Bagh Government Girls School for disaster management education as one of the pilot projects. It is pertinent to mention here that Sathi Bagh Government Girls School is the first permanent seismic resistant building in Muzaffarabad.
"Our country would continue to be a strong partner to Pakistan in rehabilitation and reconstruction of the quack effected areas of Pakistan and our joint efforts would certainly help cultivate friendship between the people of two countries," Hiroyuki said.
He said JICA has also set up a Warning and Evacuation System against land-sliding disaster in Muzaffarabad to prevent possible loss of lives and properties. This landmark project, he said, is monitoring, early moving and evacuation program in the landslide-prone areas, adding this is not only directly beneficial to the residents but it's know-how can be widely shared with other Pakistani communities which face similar landslide risks. The Government of Japan is also reconstructing four damaged bridges and one culvert on Jhelum Valley Road (Muzaffarabad-Chakoti) in cooperation with the National Highway Authority, he mentioned. The Government of Japan has been and will continue to be a strong partner of Pakistan in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the earthquake affected areas, the Japanese Minister said. "Japan believes that it is not only the transfer of money or handing over of facilities but the transfer of technology and expertise that is important for disaster management as the experience gained and expertise accumulated are the very basis for Pakistani authorities to prepare for future disaster prevention."
