In the 28th session of Punjab Assembly here on Friday Provincial Minister for Bait-ul- Maal Ijaz Shafi said that Punjab government would double its funds for Bait-ul-Mal in the coming fiscal year. He added that Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had given assurance in this regard.
Speaking on Bait-ul- Maal Report 2003-04, the minister stated that despite four times increment in the fund in the previous four years there was still a paucity of fund. He averred that the entire system of Bait-ul-Mall Department would be computerised from the next year to control mismanagement of the department.
Saghira Islam MPA giving her views she said the system had become outdated and it was need urgently to make necessary amendments in it. A opposition legislator Syed Ehsan Ullah Waqas castigating the performance of government and said that funds of it were being used for political purposes. He further criticised for making political appointments in the department. Ajasim Sharif a MPA giving his strong views on Jehaiz Fund made a protest walk out from the assembly on the occasion.
Earlier, opposition legislators Ehsan Ullah Waqas and Rana Sanaullah criticised government for promoting corruption and stated that a corrupt nazim had been elected from an important area of Lahore. There was cross charges of corruption by both treasury and opposition on the occasion. Punjab Law Minister Muhammad Basharat Raja upheld views of PPPP on holding of All Parties Conference (APC) in London by PML-N.
At a Point of Order MPA Arshad Baggo from MMA urged government to lift ban on Al-Rasheed and Al-Akhtar Trust as they had done good service and 50,000 people were affected by their ban. On an Adjournment Motion on control of prices of commodities in Sunday Bazars, Provincial Minister Ajmal Cheema averred that prices were effectively being controlled as Price Control Committees were constantly checking and vigilant during holding of these bazaars.
Earlier, Muhammad Basharat Raja Provincial Minister holding additional portfolio of 'Rural Development ' answering to a query by MPA Muhammad Ijaz, on disposing of garbage, stated that the district government was now bringing in containers for the purpose. He answering to another query said that City District Government was dumping solid waste in the areas including: City Town, Shalamar Town, and Ravi Town in Mahmood Booti Dumping Ground.
Average 4500 to 5000 small animals were brought for slaughter in Mutton & Beef Slaughter House Kot Kamboh Bakr Mandi daily, he added. The Minister said two veterinary officers were posted to check animals before being slaughtered, he pointed.
Answering a query on resignations so far received from councillors, Town Nazims and Naib Nazims in six towns of Lahore said that resignations were received in Ravi Town (17); Shalamar Town (8); Aziz Bhatti Town (7), Data Gunj Baksh Town (5); Iqbal Town (9); Nishtar Town (11). He assured the House that if corruption were proved against any person, strict legal action would be taken against him.
The Minister stated that a reference against Nazim Union Council no. 139 Nishtar Town had been sent to Punjab Election Commission after an inquiry on certain charges was proved against him. The House was adjourned for Monday 3:00pm later by the Chair.
