Punjab Human Rights Department (PHRD) has started developing up-to-date statistics of NGOs working in the field of human rights with a view to monitor HR situation and effectively involve non formal sector for protection of HR at the grassroots level.
This was expressed by Punjab Human Rights Minister Makhdoom Ashfaq Ahmed while presiding over a departmental meeting here on Friday, disclosed an official. He said that with a view to streamline and strengthen the cause of HR, the NGOs would be encouraged to proactively play their role and the PHRD would act as a facilitator. "Sensitisation seminars would be organised in various districts by PHRD to prop up HR," he added.
He observed that active social workers should be mobilised for fostering HR awareness at grassroots level and said that setting up of an efficient infrastructure of HR protection would help HR victims in redressing their genuine complaints. "The people should be sensitised that adherence of HR is a socio-religious obligation as well; and Islam has stressed its followers to abide by teachings of human dignity," he added.
