Gunmen shot dead a businessman at his office in NWFP on Friday, a day after the murder of an activist from the rival Sunni sect, police said. Three armed men killed Syed Anwer Abbas and injured his assistant at his office in the remote town of Dera Ismail Khan before fleeing on motorcycles, district police officer Abdul Rashid told AFP.
Abbas, in his 60s, was a dealer in agricultural machinery, but his brother Moodi Shah was a Shiite activist and a former mayor, another police official said.
The killing took place a day after a gunman disguised as a woman shot and killed Sunni Muslim activist Masroor Alam. Police said Alam belonged to an outlawed Sunni militant group and was facing several cases of sectarian killings. The city was tense after the latest murders, which followed the killing of a Shiite Muslim leader last month.
