The Supreme Court has ordered three Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) officers to pay two-and-a-half years salary from their own pocket to a Wapda lineman, whom they illegally dismissed from the service.
A five-member full bench of the SC also dismissed a review petition filed by these persons against an earlier order of the court here on Friday. According to details of the case, Wapda lineman Yaqoob of Peshawar disconnected electricity of an influential kiln owner due to non-payment of electricity bill of about Rs 67,000.
The kiln owner used his influence and got Yaqoob dismissed from the service by the SDO concerned and a member of a monitoring team. Accepting appeal of Yaqoob, the court observed that the appellant was wrongfully and illegally dismissed from the service, therefore instead of Wapda, the SDO concerned and other two persons should pay salary to the lineman for the period he remained out of service.
