The Ministry of Health has decided to give the status of Postgraduate Teaching Hospital to Federal Government Services Hospital (Poly Clinic) and for this purpose notification will be issued soon. According to official sources, the cadre of Medical Superintendent (BPS-20) of Poly Clinic had been enhanced and made him Executive Director (BPS-21) of the hospital.
Similarly, the ministry has also sanctioned some new posts for the hospital besides promotion of five existing posts of various cadres.
Now the additional medical superintendents will work as assistant executive directors while other posts will be joint executive director and deputy executive director (BPS-19).
The sources said the hospital management had demanded 51 additional posts to smoothly run the system while in reply the ministry had approved 24 posts in 2004 while seven more seats have been approved now. "We are expecting that remaining seats will also be sanctioned for the hospital," the sources added.
Additional Medical Superintendent, Poly Clinic Dr Shaukat H Kiani said several new development projects had been completed in the hospital to provide better medical care, including start of new Maternity Block and extension and renovation of operation theatre, Pathology Department and Casualty Department.
He said the ministry had renovated Radiology Department, upgraded blood bank and started medical ICU ward and surgical ICU ward with ventilators. He added Gamma Camera was also installed in the hospital.
He said the ministry had increased 23 percent overall budget of the hospital and provided four ambulances for patients and two buses for hospital staff.
Dr Shaukat said the ministry had already provided medical equipment to the Mother and child health care center Aabpara affiliated with the Poly Clinic to improve its standard.
Similarly, the hospital's dispensary at Sector G-7/3-4 has been upgraded and made it Sub-Health Center while the ministry constructed sheds for attendants in labour room and in front of Casualty Department.
He said the population of federal capital was gradually increasing due to which the ministry was trying to meet their requirements related to health care. He said daily 6,000 patients visit OPD and dispensaries of the hospital having capacity of 508 beds. He said the OPD of the hospital works round the clock.
Dr Shaukat said total 189 medical officers and 47 specialists were attached with the hospital along with 318 nurses.
He said a total of 1,50,000 patients received emergency care during a year while 7,50,000 tests conducted in the hospital's laboratory. He said the government was implementing an expansion plan of Poly Clinic to provide better medical services to the masses.
