The Ministry of Commerce has allowed import of Indian origin goods by Indian exhibitors for display and sale at Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) ''My Karachi 2007 Oasis of Harmony'' exhibition to be held in the first week of June this year.
The import of goods of Indian origin for exhibition has been allowed only on one-time basis, subject to levy of normal duty and taxes. The Ministry has allowed import of total 22 items from India, including garments (block printing and vegetable dyeing), sarees of silk (manmade fibre), ladies'' shalwar suits of silk (manmade fibre), ladies'' shalwar suits of cotton, ladies'' shalwar suits including ''chikankari'' work, sarees including ''chikankari'' work, Kashmiri embroidered garments, casual garments of cotton, garments of manmade fibre, garments of silk, artificial jewellery, kundan jewellery, silver jewellery, polki jewellery, diamond-studded 18-k gold jewellery, diamond jewellery, gems and jewellery, polished diamonds solitaires etc, perfumes, cosmetics, stainless steel and silverware.
The import of these goods has been allowed in accordance with their HS Code KCCI President Majyd Aziz in a letter to the Prime Minister had requested to allow one-time import and sale of Indian goods by Indian companies participating in the KCCI exhibition.
On KCCI request the Prime Minister directed Commerce Ministry to examine the matter and issue necessary permission. The KCCI chief said that the goods imported from India would be received ''in bond'', and Indian exhibitors only would pay duty on those items which would be sold in the exhibition.
