The Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (Reap) has started its efforts to re-capture the potential Saudi Arab market to export rice. In this regard, a Reap delegation met the Saudi Consul General in Karachi here on Wednesday.
In the meeting with Dr Hassan A Attar, many issues were discussed to promote rice exports to Saudi Arabia. Reap chairman Abdul Aziz Maniya apprised the consul general of the current rice situation and the steps which Pakistan's exporters were taking to increase rice exports to Saudi Arabia.
Since the trend in Saudi Arabia has changed by consuming more Parboiled rice than White rice, the exporters in Pakistan have started to put up parboiled plants just to cater the Saudi Arabia market. So, in the next few years Pakistan would be able to dominate the Saudi market as the quality and aroma of Pakistan's rice is the best in the world.
Abdul Rahim Janoo a former Reap chairman, who was also at the meeting, thanked the consul general for his continuous support to Reap, and advised about the current market scenario of rice in Pakistan.
The Saudi Consul General assured full co-operation to the members of Reap and to do whatever was necessary to accommodate the rice exporters. He told Reap members that an exhibition would be held in Karachi Expo Centre in April in which Saudi industrialists and traders would participate.
He said that a lot of investment was being done in Pakistan by Saudi businessmen. Also, Pakistani businessmen were investing in the free zone in Saudi Arabia. Also present in the meeting were Abdul Rauf Chappal, Ashfaq Ghaffar, Kasim Suleman, Dr M Pervaiz, Shamlal Badlani and Shams ul Islam Khan.-PR
