Chairman Central Board of Revenue (CBR) Abdullah Yusuf has underscored the significance of regular contacts between the tax authorities of Islamic countries to share experiences and benefit from each others' expertise in relevant matters.
He said this while addressing the concluding session of a three-day conference of Association of Tax Authorities of Islamic Countries (ATAIC) at Directorate General of Training, Income Tax, here on Wednesday. Abdullah said such type of conferences should be arranged frequently as these would help improve the efficiency and capabilities of participants through exchange views and experiences. Tax authorities from nine Islamic countries, including Pakistan, Malaysia, and Turkey participated in the moot.
Talking about the expertise of brotherly countries in certain fields, the chairman said that Turkey had done a lot in computerisation and documentation fields while Malaysia had an excellent record in forensic work and other countries could take benefit form them to bring improvement in their respective fields.
Abdullah on this occasion praised the Regional Commissioner of Income Tax (RCIT), Haji Ahmed, for arranging this moot, which, he said, would go a long way in improving the efficiency of all the participating countries.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Director General of DoT, Munir Qureshi, said tax authorities should be imparted training to unearth 'black economies' so as to improve the economic system. He suggested that instead of putting burden on the existing taxpayers, new areas should be explored to broaden the tax base.
