US Energy Secretary Sam Bodman travels to India next week to discuss ways for the two nations to cooperate on the Asian nation's growing energy thirst.
In New Delhi on March 20 Bodman will meet Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his counterparts from the Ministry of Power, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas before addressing an energy conference on March 21.
In Mumbai on March 22, he talks with Indian venture capitalists on clean energy technology, and will meet with the head of India's Atomic Energy Commission to discuss a deal that would allow New Delhi to buy US nuclear reactors and fuel for the first time in 30 years.
"This trip comes at a very important time in the relationship between India and the United States," said Karen Harbert, US Assistant Secretary of Energy for Policy and International Affairs, in a telephone briefing with reporters on Friday.
The two nations have a lot in common both sit atop huge coal reserves which are key to their growing electricity demand, and both import the majority of the crude oil needed to help keep their economies humming.
