The High Court Bar Association and District Bar Association, Rawalpindi continued their protest against the suspension of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary and staged a sit-in in front of District Courts on the sixth consecutive day on Saturday.
The lawyers took out a protest rally and marched towards the District Council. The police closed the gates of the district court premises and stopped lawyers from coming out. Lawyers chanted slogans against the government and demanded resignations of Federal Ministers Muhammad Ali Durrani and Wasi Zafar. The lawyers did not attend the court proceedings as a sign of protest against the government decision.
Earlier, an extraordinary meeting of the Rawalpindi District Bar Association held with Abdul Hameed Malik, Vice President of association in the chair. The meeting adopted two resolutions asking government to take serious note of attack on the press and registration of cases under terrorist act against the policemen involved in attacking a local TV channel. They condemned the illegal confinement of lawyers and other people.
