The Central Development Working Party (CDWP), which is meeting on Tuesday (today), will consider 44 projects with an estimated cost of Rs 109 billion, a senior government official told Business Recorder on Monday.
Some of the important schemes to be taken up by the CDWP are Sindh Water Sector Improvement Project (Rs 10.7 billion) and Towiwar Storage Dam in Killa Saifullah (Rs 2.35 billion). To be chaired by deputy chairman Planning Commission Dr Akram Sheikh, the CDWP will consider overall eight projects in water sector valuing Rs 11.9 billion.
The CDWP, which has the power to approve projects with an outlay of up to Rs 500 million and recommends larger projects to Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec), will also consider six other projects, which include cement concrete lining along Sehri Minor, Dhoro Minor and Diplo Minor; rehabilitation of banks of Mithrao canal RD 240 to RD 382; remedial measure for DANA Sadoori Irrigation Scheme on Polalai River Lasbela; Chashma Right Bank Irrigation Project remedial measures in NWFP portion CBRC stage-III; construction of Kair Bara Dam in district Haripur and construction of Jabba Khattak Dam in district Nowshera.
In environment sector, the CDWP will take up 'Clean Drinking Water for All' project valuing Rs 15.843 billion. The project is already being implemented by the Ministry of Industries after it was transferred from Ministry of Environment. The sources said that the executing agency had made a number of changes in PC-I of the scheme.
The meeting will consider six projects pertaining to transport and communication sector valuing Rs 15.370 billion, which include rehabilitation & improvement of 124-km Dera Ismail Khan Mughalkot road (N-50); improvement & construction of Jalkand-Chilas road project; construction of Fish Landing Jetty and allied harbour facilities at Surbandaró East Bay, Gwadar and construction of Fish Landing Jetty and allied harbour facilities at Pishukanó East Bay, Gwadar.
The meeting is also likely to approve two projects that include construction of road from Tarkoo Adda Kharkhan road to Basti Yasmen NA-181 and expansion of 700 Rft bridge on Nihing River on Zubaida Jalal road.
The CDWP is also expected to approve the projects pertaining to Agriculture and Food sector and the project of PAEC on production of bio-energy from plant biomass costing Rs 295.545 million.
In addition, the meeting is likely to approve two projects valuing Rs 59.579 million of Infrastructure Management Unit (IMU), two projects of Rs 653 million in manpower sector, two projects of Rs 39.994 million in health sector, three projects valuing Rs 650.058 million pertaining to physical planning and housing, two projects of Rs 414.714 million in education sector, six projects of Rs 4. 5 billion in industries & commerce, three projects of Rs 1.04 billion in Science & Technology and one project of Rs 202.203 million in higher education.
