Punjab Minister for Population Welfare Naseem Lodhi has said that new laws for protection of women have come into force which will help phase out retrogressive rituals that hamper the growth and potential of women.
While talking to delegations of women from various parts of the province here on Monday, Naseem Lodhi said the government was committed to slowing down the fast growing population and it will soon start an awareness campaign in this regard.
With the help of intellectuals, Ulema, journalist and common man, population welfare department is trying hard to find ways to spread the message of small family size, she stressed. "If people from all walks of life participate in awareness campaigns, we can achieve a balanced society", she said.
She further averred that the government is concentrating on women's education and Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi's vision of 'Parha Likha Punjab' is already paying dividends.
