Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Thursday categorically stated that the government believes in the supremacy of Constitution and Law and will accept the decision of Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on the Presidential reference against Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
"The Supreme Judicial Council is the ultimate body to look at such issues and whatever they decide, we will stand by it," the Prime Minister said while talking to a Singapore media delegation led by Narindar Agarwal here at the Prime Minister House.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Durrani and State Minister Tariq Azeem were also present. Shaukat informed the delegation that the country's Constitution provides for SJC, which is the competent authority to review such cases. "They are in session and whatever their decision is will be accepted by the government."
He said the government believes in supremacy of Constitution and Law as well as in the freedom of expression, adding that the government was doing everything in line with the law and constitution of Pakistan.
"Let the institutions of the state review the situation in this particular case and give their judgement, and we will implement whatever it is," the PM stressed.
