Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday granted bail before arrest to former chief minister of Sindh Syed Abdullah Shah in 17 cases. A two-member bench of SHC comprised of Justice Afzal Soomro and Justice Rahmat Hussain Jaffery, heard the bail before arrest plea of Syed Abdullah Shah who came into public on Thursday after 1997 when he appeared before the court.
Syed Abdullah Shah held the chief minister office of Sindh from October 1993 to November 1996. He had also served as Speaker of Sindh Assembly earlier. His counsel Asmat Mehdi told the court that all cases against Abdullah Shah were filed in his absence and a number of his co-accused have already been acquitted in some cases.
She said that her client has been serious ill for last many years and submitted medical reports to the court.
The counsel requested the court for approval of the bail on medical grounds. The court granted bail to Syed Abdullah Shah on medical grounds in all 17 cases.
