Dr Kausar Abdullah Malik, Member, Food and Agriculture, Planning Commission on Thursday said that Allopathy was imperative to save environment from being chemically polluted.
"There is no co-relation between use of pesticides and production increase. It is not true that pesticides have great impact on agricultural yield rather Allopathy can help produce rich and healthy crops," he said while addressing a three-day international conference on "Role of Allopathy in Sustainable Agriculture", held at University of Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi (UAAR) on Thursday.
The UAAR Agronomy Department, Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Pakistan Science Foundation had jointly organised the conference to create awareness about Allopathy and its role in achieving sustainability in agricultural development.
He said 80 percent chemical pesticides were being sprayed on cotton crops, which not only cause air pollution in the cotton sowing areas but are also injurious to health. It is our duty to introduce latest technologies for the better health of the people, he said.
Dr Kausar stressed the Allopathy scientists to forward concrete recommendation for the betterment of the crops. Scientists must shift the knowledge and information that they have gained in the past couple of years to develop modern technology for healthy crop yield, he said.
Earlier, the UAAR Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Mehmood said Pakistan was rich in agriculture, therefore, there was a dire need to introduce modern technologies for rich agriculture yield.
Dr Yoshrharu Fuji, a Japanese scientist, gave detailed lecture on the role of Allopathy in sustainable agriculture systems. The conference would continue till March 24 and researchers and scientists from all across the country and abroad would present their research papers and share their knowledge and experience during the conference.
