Young people from all provinces will assemble in Islamabad to participate in UNFPA conference on 'MDGs and Youth Empowerment' being held here at a local hotel on Tuesday. Pakistan currently has the largest cohort of young people in its history.
Today there are 24 million youth between the ages of 15 and 24 in the country. Over 100 young people, girls and boys, from around the country will convene in Islamabad to celebrate the achievements of the national programme for youth development and reproductive health awareness.
UNFPA is organising this conference to share youth experiences in this programme with the government, NGOs and civil society. Youth will provide their own perspectives on what is needed in terms of their reproductive health. Their recommendations will be in support of youth empowerment and the millennium development goals (MDGs).
Reproductive Health Initiative for Youth in Asia (RHIYA) is a project funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented in Pakistan by UNFPA through three national partner NGOs: Marie Stopes Society (MSS), Pakistan Voluntary Health and Nutrition Association (PAVHNA) and Society for the Advancement of Community Health Education and Training (SACHET).
