The Australian Wool Exchange (AWEX) said its eastern market indicator (EMI) rose 3 cents from to 943c a kg clean at sales on Thursday. AWEX said its northern indicator at sales in Sydney rose 4 cents to 977c/kg, the southern indicator at sales in Melbourne rose 2 cents to 915c/kg, and the western indicator at sales in Fremantle fell 3 cents to 951c/kg.
In Sydney, 19.5 micron Merino fleece gained 15 to 20 cents in a late rally. Merino skirtings of 19 microns and finer finished the day up to 10 cents dearer for types with 4 to 7 percent Vegetable matter. Crutchings also gained 10 cents.
In Melbourne, Merino skirtings lost 2 to 5 cents, with 19 microns and coarser wool most affected. Crossbreds in general also finished the day 10 cents cheaper.
In Fremantle, 19 micron and finer Merino fleece dropped 10 to 20 cents. The majority of the offering lost between 1 and 4 cents for 19.5 microns and broader. The carding sector closed stronger with Lambs gaining 20 cents and Locks and Crutchings 15 to 20 cents dearer. Of the 27,456 bales offered, 17.2 percent were passed in. Sales will resume in Melbourne on Tuesday, and in Sydney and Fremantle on Wednesday.
