Karachi City District Government (CDGK) has chalked out a contingency plan to meet any eventuality during the Rabi-ul-Awwal procession to be taken out on Sunday, April 1. CDGK officials said that on the directive of City Nazim Mustafa Kamal, spadework has been done to facilitate the participants of the procession, and arrangements have been finalised.
In line with the plan, from three days before Eid-e-Minlad-un-Nabi (PBUH), CDGK will establish toll-free emergency centres, improve sanitation arrangements, and set up rescue camps, on the route of the main procession. The CDGK municipal department will perform round the clock duty to facilitate the participants of the ritual.
City Nazim in a meeting on Saturday reviewed the arrangements made for the Milad, officials said. The meeting was attended by additional vice-chairmen of KWSB, MPAs Imamuddin Shahzad and Muhammad Moin Khan, DCO Karachi Fazlur Rehman, KWSB MD Brigadier Iftikhar Haider, DIG Operation Mushtaq Shah, DIG Trafffic Falak Khursheed, Municipal Services EDO Masood Alam, prominent religious scholars Shah Turabul Haq, Mufti Muneebur Rehman, Muhammad Hanif Tayyab and a large number of representatives of various religious organisations.
Officials said that religious scholars had also put forward various suggestions to the CDGK for enhancing safety and other arrangements. City Nazim said that sectarianism was a blot on the face of the society which had annihilated the country's peace, and stressed the need for its complete elimination for perpetual peace and harmony. He said that the present government had taken measures to ensure foolproof arrangements in the city during the procession.
