The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has dismissed from service Shaukat Ali Bhatti, a BS-20 officer of customs and excise group on charges of corruption.
According to a notification issued on Saturday, Shaukat Ali Bhatti, was taken into custody under National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Ordinance in a reference ACT NO.52/2002 on account of assets or gains acquired through corruption or corrupt practices.
He entered into plea bargain with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and offered to pay Rs 142 million which was accepted and approved by the Accountability Court vide judgement in 2003. The accused was released under Section 25(b) read with Section 15 of the NAB Ordinance, 1999.
With the approval of the Prime Minister, a show cause notice was served upon him in 2006 under Removal from Service (Special Powers) Ordinance, 2000 which was replied by the accused officer on 20.09.2006 requesting for grant of personal hearing.
Prime Minister after considering facts of the case and affording personal hearing to the accused, has imposed major penalty of "Dismissal from Service" upon Shaukat Ali Bhatti, under Ordinance, 2000 with effect from September 11, 2003 ie the date of conviction by the accountability Court.
He shall have a right to appeal to the appellate authority under the Removal from Service (Special Powers) Ordinance, 2000 within a period of 15 days from the date of communication of this notification.
