Head of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Maulana Sami-ul-Haq has condemned the UK government's move to deny him visa for attending the All Parties Conference of Mian Nawaz Sharif in London. Addressing a news conference, along with his other party comrades at Lahore Press Club on Saturday.
He said that he had applied with the UK government for getting a visa to attend the APC but to his surprise, they refused it which was deplorable. He said that a day before, he received a letter from the UK authorities in which he had been intimated that the UK government had decided not to issue him visa on the grounds that his presence in the UK was not in the interest of public good.
He also distributed the copies of the letter among the reporters which stated: "following the London bombings in July 2005, the Home Secretary of UK announced a list of particular behaviours which are not acceptable in the UK. The activities of Maulana Sami fall within the scope of objectionable behaviours, thus his presence in the UK is not in the public good." Another fragment of the letter stated: "the home secretary has reached this decision you have used your positions both as a teacher and politician to propagate views which foment and provoke others to acts of terrorism.
This has brought you within the scope of the list of unacceptable behaviours..." Protesting over this move on the part of UK government, Maulana Sami-ul-Haq appealed to the British people to review their opinion regarding their government's behaviour with the Muslim sates and their rulers and force them to go for a dialogue with the Islamic Ulema so that they can make them understand their point of view.
