President Pervez Musharraf on Sunday said people should not allow the vested interest to make political mileage out of the purely constitutional matter being considered by the Supreme Judicial Council.
The President made these remarks while speaking at a gathering of the parliamentarians at a dinner fiven by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz at the Prime Minister House here.
He said all provisions of the constitution were strictly observed while filing reference in respect of Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry and the government is committed to upholding the sanctity and supremacy of the law and will accept whatever verdict is given by the Supreme Judicial Council. The President said that if the lawyer community has any grievances it should register its protest in a peaceful manner. They should, however, not allow any one to politicise the judicial matter for political gains, he said.
Musharraf cautioned that the matter before the Supreme Judicial Council is of national interest and the bid to exploit it for partisan purposes is indeed unfortunate.
He said the lawyer community should be particularly wary of those elements whose repeated attempts to disrupt law and order situation has been roundly rejected by the masses.
The President said the government is confident and committed to ensuring peace and tranquility in the country so that the process of economic development and the march towards progress and stability continues unabated.
The President called upon the parliamentarians to increase their interactions with the people and apprise them of the plots being hatched by the unsavoury political elements to disrupt the economic and political stability achieved by the country in the last seven years.
He said the government is committed to holding elections in the country by the end of the year. The elections will be held in a free, fair and impartial manner and election observers and media will be free to witness and report them, he added.
Addressing the parliamentarians, the Prime Minister said the PML government and its allies will contest the forthcoming elections on the basis of performance in the office as the government has considerable achievements to its credit in the last seven years. He said the government believes in the supremacy of law and has not deviated from the constitutional path while filing the reference in the Supreme Judicial Council. The government is also committed to accepting its verdict without any reservations, he said.
He asked the parliamentarians to expose all those elements who are trying to exploit a purely judicial matter to serve their political ends.
The Prime Minister said the government is determined to ensure sanctity and security of institutions and protect the life and property of the citizens.
He said the government will continue to build on the solid economic foundations for continued growth and development and prosperity of the people. The dinner was attended by the federal ministers, parliamentarians, PML leaders, leaders of the coalition parties and the Chief Minister of Balochistan.
