Chairman Erra Altaf Saleem has said that 98 percent quake survivors have been paid compensation for the construction of their damaged houses. Talking to PTV, he said remaining survivors who have signed agreements would also be given compensation by May 31.
To a question he said, out of remaining, a number of quake affectees could not get compensation due to some errors on their own part. Efforts are being made for the provision of compensation to them, he added.
To another question, Chairman ERRA said that after earthquake, federal government with the co-operation of NGOs and donors provided better health facilities in quake-hit areas.
People who have received initial compensation instalments should complete construction of their damaged houses before December 31, he said adding the government was also rapidly completing different projects such as roads, schools, colleges, water and electricity supply schemes and health facilities.
Lauding efforts of national and international NGOs, he said that after the earthquake, unprecedented relief work was done in quake-hit areas. Even at the present stage, government alone cannot complete mega projects of reconstruction and rehabilitation without help of NGOs.
He said that the government's relief efforts were timely and owing to proper planning and strategy of Erra, today people of quake-hit areas have been able to stand on their own feet.
To a question he said, "I personally address e-mails sent by quake affectees." Basic objective of the government was that poorest of the poor should be provided relief with amount for the reconstruction of their damaged houses, he added.
