A former Prime Minister of AJK, Sultan Mehmood, on Sunday announced to celebrate 'right to self-determination month' from April 5 to further highlight the Kashmir issue within and outside the country.
"In the first half of the month, public meetings will be held in district and divisional headquarters of Azad Kashmir, Lahore and Shakargarh, while in the last 15 days the issue will be highlighted in US, Canada and European countries," he told a press conference after a meeting with party leaders and workers at his residence here.
He termed as a big success the inclusion of amendments, especially right to self-determination of Kashmiri people and human rights violations, in Occupied Kashmir, in Emma Nicholson report on Kashmir. "Emma has fulfilled her promise and included our amendments in her report," he said.
Sultan said that he would personally visit European countries for lobbying before final voting on the report in the European Parliament.
He said that issues like right to self-determination and grave human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir were earlier not included in the report.
In her report, she had tried to protect the Indian interests and misinterpreted right of self-determination granted to the Kashmiris by the United Nations Security Council.
"Emma had termed the Kashmir issue as a water dispute between India and Pakistan, which is contrary to the facts and ground realities," he added.
He said that Emma had not mentioned the presence of 800,000 Indian troops, who have killed more than 100,000 innocent Kashmiri youths in Occupied Kashmir. She had not reported grave human rights violations committed by Indian troops deployed in Occupied Kashmir.
"Now, the right to self-determination, in accordance with the resolution of United Nations Security Council (UNSC), has been recognised in the report, which was our basic demand," he added.
